Embalming and Body Preparation in Sparta, Tennessee

When a family wants to have a viewing or visitation, embalming and body preparation make that possible. At Thurman Funeral Home, our staff handles this part of the process with care, dignity, and respect for the person you loved.

We know this is a part of funeral planning that families do not always want to talk about. We will explain everything clearly and answer any questions you have.

What Is Embalming?

Embalming is a process that helps preserve the body for a short time. It also restores a peaceful, natural appearance for viewing.

Families usually choose embalming when they plan to have a viewing or visitation, when there will be several days between death and the funeral service, when the body needs to travel a long distance, or when an open-casket service is planned.

Embalming is not required by law in Tennessee for most situations. We will tell you honestly whether embalming is needed for your plans. If it is not needed, we will say so.

Preparing Your Loved One

When a family chooses a viewing, our staff also handles dressing your loved one in clothing of your choice, casketing, hair styling, and light cosmetology to restore a natural appearance.

Many families find that seeing their loved one looking peaceful and cared for brings real comfort. It is one of the ways a viewing helps with grief.

Refrigeration as an Alternative

If your family does not want embalming, we offer refrigeration as a short-term option. This works well for direct cremation, closed-casket services, or services held within a short time after death. We will explain when this option fits and when embalming might be a better choice.

Done With Care

Whatever your family chooses, the Buck family promises that your loved one will be treated with the same care we would give our own family. That is the promise we have kept for two generations, and it is the promise we will always keep.
