Irene Dycus

December 24, 1924 — June 4, 2022

Irene Simmons Dycus, 97, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 4th.  She was born on December 24, 1924 in Quebeck, Tennessee to Farce and Bessie Adair Simmons.

After marrying Bonnie Vernon Dycus on August 14, 1955, at a church in Spencer, they moved to their farm on the Caney Fork River in the Hickory Valley community. Many fun days were spent by nieces and nephews camping, fishing, and hunting on the farm. Irene took great pride in their garden, their mule named Katie, and in making cherry pies with cherries picked from their own tree. She was diligent in reading her Bible daily and always enjoyed the Dycus family reunions.

As a longtime member of Frasiers Chapel of the United Methodist Church in Sparta, Irene served as the church treasurer for several years. She worked at the Sparta Shirt Factory and was a loyal member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie, who died in 2006 after 51 years of marriage. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and some dear friends who were like family to her. We rejoice knowing she is whole in mind, body, and spirit now enjoying her heavenly reward with her Savior and loved ones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Frasiers Chapel UMC, c/o Doris Russell, 1334 Sparkmantown Road, Doyle, TN, 38559.

The service will be on Friday, June 10, 2:00pm at Thurman Funeral Home, 44 N Main Street, in Sparta officiated by the Rev. Al Schieber with a gravesite service to follow at Frasiers Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 1:00pm.
