Orvel Billings

Orvel Jack Billings, age 85, of Sparta, TN, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, March 27, 2012, at his residence. He was born December 10, 1926 to Matt Billings and Cora Mae Hawkins Billings in DeKalb County, Tennessee.
Mr. Billings served our country in the United States Army as a Spec 3 in the Korean War. Afterward he and his wife moved back to Sparta,TN. He stayed busy with his Logging business. His pleasures in life were the love of nature, logging, deer hunting, turkey hunting and his fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norvel Billings, John Billings and M.C. Billings; one sister, Macon White; six half brothers, Hugh Billings, Lester Billings, Gus Adams, Tom Adams, Hassel Adams and Odus Adams; and one half sister, Maud Odell.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Grace Mitchell Billings of Sparta, TN; sisters in laws, Ann Jensen and Sandra Billings; several nieces and nephews. Also a special thanks to caregivers nephew and wife, Ralph and Effie Vance.
Family will receive friends at Thurman Funeral Home, Friday, March 30, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro. Stewart Orell and Bro. Nathan Hawkins. Interment will follow in the Lost Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers, Richie Billings, Matthew Billings, Marvin Billings, Ralph Vance, Jeff Walker, Mark Bilbrey, Matthew Neely,Wilbert Broom and Floyd Demps.
