Mary Ann Simmons (Nanny)

April 20, 1934 – July 6, 2025

Mary Ann Simmons, 91, of Sparta, Tennessee and Holland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025. Born to Martha and Gerrit Zuverink on April 20, 1934, in Holland, Mary Ann spent her early years surrounded by the beauty of West Michigan before settling in Sparta, where she built a wonderful life with her beloved husband, Fred Simmons, by the lake they both cherished.

Mary Ann was the heart of her family — a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an adoring Nanny. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to spoil them with love, laughter, and homemade treats. Her kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

A true lover of the outdoors, Mary Ann could often be found in her garden, hands in the soil, or by the water with a fishing pole in hand. She found peace in nature and joy in quiet moments. Mary Ann was the biggest animal lover, spoiling them as much as her own grandchildren with treats and love. When she wasn’t outside, she could usually be found curled up with a good book — her love of reading was just another reflection of her curious and thoughtful nature.

Mary Ann’s presence brought comfort and light to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever treasure her wisdom, humor, and unwavering love.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. To honor Mary Ann’s legacy, donations may be made to a local animal shelter or to a charity of choice that reflects the kindness and spirit she shared with the world.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
