Lieutenant Savage

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Merriel Eugene "Gene" Savage, age 57, was born on May 1, 1953, in White County, Tennessee to James Alexander Savage and Sarah Ida Myers Savage. He passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his home in Doyle, Tennessee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Janice Savage of Doyle, TN; children, Merel Eugene Savage of PA and Sarah Janan Savage of PA; brothers, James A. Savage, George T. Savage, Doug Savage, and Joe Savage; sisters, Effie Mc Cord and Mary Rogers; also several nieces and nephews.

Gene served in the Tennessee National Guard 28 years, retiring in 1998. He was an avid UT fan and enjoyed gardening, outdoor sports, and music. He had worked in the lumber business, and most recently as a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles M. "Mack" Savage.

The family will receive friends at Thurman Funeral Home on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. till 9:00 P.M.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at Thurman Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro. Jonathan Angel. Interment will be in Robinson Chapel Cemetery with full military rites.
