In the early morning hours of October 15th, Laura Mae Brock, a month shy of her 86th birthday, took the hand of her recently departed husband of 65 years and winged her way to Heaven. Brock was born in Sparta, Tennessee, on November 19, 1933 to parents Johnnie Esco Phillips and Ella Frances Coots Phillips. Laura married the love of her life, David Franklin Brock, May 14, 1954. They enjoyed 65 years of wedded bliss. Laura devoted herself to making a loving home for her family. Her love for her daughters knew no bounds. Her work life included employment at the Sparta Shirt Factory, Brady Printing, Suttons Shirt Factory, and USA Enterprises. Brock was a longtime member of the Findlay United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ellen Graham; and three brothers, Wintfred Rutherford, Charles Phillips, and Will Phillips. She left behind an adoring family comprised of twin daughters Darla Brock and Karla Brock; son-in-law, Eddie Weeks; sisters, Patty Figueroa, Brenda Sauerwein, Donna Johnson, and Barbara Pratl ; brothers-in-law, Gail Pratl and Sam Brock; sisters-in-law, Wilma Phillips and Geneva Christine Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the caring staff at Life Care of Sparta for making the last six months of Laura's life happy, secure, and comfortable.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 18, 2019 at Thurman Funeral Home, 12 pm with Bro. Paul Allen officiating. Burial directly to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, October 18, 2019, from 10:30-12 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home.
