James "Jimmie" B. Cavanah, age 88, of Sparta, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026.
Born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on August 13, 1937, James spent much of his life in Sparta, Tennessee, where he became known and loved by family, friends, and neighbors alike. He was a man of quiet strength, a warm smile, and a heart deeply devoted to those he loved.
James was married to his wife, Donna Cavanah, for 36 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To them, he was simply "Papa"—a title he wore proudly and one that became his most cherished name.
A longtime over-the-road truck driver for Thomas Industries, James spent many years faithfully providing for his family through hard work and dedication. He was respected for his strong work ethic and the dependable character he demonstrated throughout his life.
James attended East Sparta Church of God. He enjoyed following Kentucky Wildcats basketball, St Louis Cardinals and was a loyal supporter of Sparta Warriors basketball. He also loved spending time on the water walleye and crappie fishing, a pastime that brought him great enjoyment through the years. Whether cheering on his favorite teams, casting a line, or spending time with family, he found joy in life's simple blessings.
Those who knew James will remember his kind spirit, his gentle nature, and especially his smile—a smile that could light up any room and make others feel welcome.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Cavanah; daughter, Gwinda Stevens (Don) of Smyrna, Tennessee; brother, Paul Dean Cavanah of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; step children, Jason Cloyd (Jill), Mike Cloyd (Lissa) and Trevanda Allison (Tim), all of Sparta, Tennessee; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, extended family members, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Butch Cavanah and David Cavanah.
While his family grieves his passing, they rejoice in the many memories he leaves behind. James's influence will continue to be felt in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held June 13, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Plainview Cassville Cemetery with Bishop Charles Dotson officiating.
Pallbearers will be David Cavanah, Ty Cloyd, Chance Howell, Raymond Nelson, James Stevens and James William Stevens.
The family appreciates the prayers, love, and support shown during this time.
