James Carl Buck passed from this world on Friday, December 22, 2023, at his home in Algood, following a brief illness. He was born on February 5, 1935, in Rickman Tennessee, to the late Lawrence and Mattie Green Buck.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Buck.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Carolyn Thompson Buck, a son, James Carl Buck, Jr. (Melissa), and a daughter, Joy Buck Gothard. Also surviving are three grandsons, James Christopher Buck, Billy Ray Buck (Victoria) of Sparta, Adam Buck Gothard (Taylor) of Baxter, and a bonus granddaughter, Brittany Gothard Kuykendall of Strawberry Plains, along with eleven great-grandchildren.
James attended Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and was a long-time member of Paran Church in Overton County. He retired from Fleetguard in 1991, and was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Following retirement, he worked with his son at Thurman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are his three grandsons, Donnie Buck, Bill Benson, Rodger Phillips.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Whitson Funeral Home by Pastor Richard Bond. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cookeville Rescue Mission, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Salem Cemetery are requested.
