James Blaylock

March 29, 1924 — December 29, 2011

Blaylock, James Charles (J.C.), age 87, of Sparta, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2011 with his loving wife beside him at Cumberland Medical Center, after a extended illness.

He was a WWII Veteran in the Pacific Campaign, he served his country in the Army. J.C. was a baseball lover who played semi-pro baseball in his younger years with Brooklyn Dodgers. He drove trucks, worked in the coal mines, sawmill, he had his business Blaylock Charcoal Company, and drove a school bus for 10 years for Cumberland County School System and White County School System.

J.C. was born March 29, 1924 in Clifty Community, Cumberland County, Tennessee to John Blaylock and Mary Lottie Nash Blaylock.

J.C. was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years of marriage, Ethel Bertram Blaylock; sons, James M. Blaylock and wife Karen, and Randy Blaylock all of Eastland Community; daughter, Stephanie West of McMinnville, TN; brother, Herman V. (H.V.) Blaylock of Denver, Colorado; one granddaughter, Cindy Holt of Crossville, TN; three grandsons, Kyle Blaylock, Ayden Blaylock and Ridge Dunn; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Holt. He is also survived by four nieces, Jackie, Debbie, Ruth Ann and Mary Ann; three nephews, Dennis, Bill and Mike.

Funeral services will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Thurman Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Mike Thorne officiating. Interment will follow in the Clifty Cemetery in Cumberland County.

Family will receive friends Sunday, January 1, 2012 at funeral home 12 p.m. till time of service.
