Carl Martin Wheeler, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and respected community member, peacefully passed away on June 6, 2026, in Baxter, Tennessee. Born on June 17, 1941, in Sparta, Tennessee, Carl lived a life marked by dedication, service, and steadfast commitment to his family and country.
Carl began his journey in Sparta, where he was raised by his loving parents, Ova Lee Goins Wheeler and Ham Wheeler. He was also a brother to Roberta Marie Wheeler, Jimmie Lee Wheeler, and Larry Marshal Wheeler, all of whom have preceded him in death. His early years were shaped by close family bonds that remained important throughout his life.
Answering the call to serve his country, Carl proudly served in the United States Navy, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism and discipline. Following his military service, Carl dedicated 31 years of his professional life to Fleetguard, where he worked diligently until his retirement. His long tenure there speaks to his loyalty and hardworking nature.
Carl was a man who treasured family above all else. He is survived by his second wife, Wanda Catherine Dunn Wheeler, who stood by his side with love and devotion. His children, Lanny Wheeler (Amy Ledbetter) of Sparta and Timothy Wheeler (Sandra) of Sparta, carry forward his legacy. He also found great joy in his grandchildren—Chance Wheeler (Emily), Raven Wheeler (Austyn Inman), Kaden Wheeler, Arie Wheeler, Aiden Wheeler, and Lilliana Wheeler—and cherished his four great-grandchildren. Carl’s family circle further extended to his stepchildren, Sherri Judd (Johnny) of Texas and DeAnn Thomas (Johnny) of Baxter, as well as his step-grandchildren Cody Judd (Sarah), Jesse Thomas (Kadie), and Jason Thomas.
The outpouring of respect and honor for Carl is also reflected by those who will serve as pallbearers: Bob Wilkerson, Jerry Hutchinson, Ryan Packingham, Jason Thomas, Tim Wheeler, and Justin McCurry. Honorary pallbearers include Terry Jo Allen, Johnny Thomas, and Johnny Judd.
