Carl Hawkins

Carl M. Hawkins “Hawk”, 82, husband of Maria Del Pilar Hawkins, died Saturday, November 03, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born August 22, 1936, in Sparta, TN, he was a son of the late Floyd J. Hawkins and the late Ida Lewis Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins was a member of Midway Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Hawkins was well known as a steel guitar player.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Del Pilar Hawkins of Sumter,SC; three daughters, Sherry Henson (Roy) of Gainesboro, TN, Katie Swygert (Gordon) of Sumter, and Jeannie Rae Hemming (Bryan) of Tom Bean, TX; three sons, Derek Hawkins (Wendy) and Carl Hawkins, Jr. both of Sumter, and Timothy Hawkins (Heather) of Manning; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two great–great grandchildren; three sisters, Annabelle Fie of Sparta, TN, Rae Miller of Chattanooga, TN, and Barbara Harms of Ft. Charlotte, FL; one brother-in-law, Pedro Ramon of Spain; and one sister-in-law, Maria Jesus Ramon of Spain.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Hawkins, and Herbert Hawkins; and two sisters, Amelia Hawkins Swain, Ruth Hawkins Shoemaker.

Arrangements:

Service will begin at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Smith Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Internment at Smith Chapel Cemetery.
