Bob Black

April 4, 1921 — March 20, 2011

Mr. A. R. "Bob" Black, age 89, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his residence in the De Rossett Community.

Mr. Black was born April 4, 1921 in Ravenscroft, Tennessee to Andy Black and Elizabeth Ersia Dodson Black.

Bob was a graduated from Pleasant Hill Academy in Pleasant Hill, Tennessee. He served our country in United States Army in WWII as a medic and then he went on to work as a foremen at General Processing until he retired in Crossville, Tennessee. Bob was also a Master Mason in the Crossville Lodge 483 for 55 years of service.

He is survived by two sister-in-laws: Pat Black of Cookeville, Tennessee; and Joy Black Hembree of Sparta, Tennessee; nephews: Gary Black of Cookeville, Tennessee; Robert Monhan of Knoxville, Tennesse; Lloyd Black, Jr. and Andy Black both of Smithville, Tennessee; and Greg Black of North Carolina; nieces: Cindy Christopher of Alabama; Linda Velasco of Knoxville, Tennessee; Beth Gibson and Melanie West, both of North Carolina. Also Jim and Brenda Scott of Sparta, several great nephews and nieces. Close friends Charles and Ann Lamb of Sparta.

Preceded death by his parents, wife of 46 years Mildred Anthanette "Snooks" Black, sisters: Lucille Monhan and Leola Black and brothers: Lloyd Black and Vernon "Bud" Black.

Masonic services will be Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thurman Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 4:30 P.M. till time of Masonic services.

Graveside Military Honors services will be at Smith Chapel Cemetery, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. Officiating will be Bro. Jim Scott. Pallbearers will be nephews.

Interment will follow at Smith Chapel Cemetery in Cumberland County.

Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
