Alton Douglas Roberts, a cherished resident of Sparta, Tennessee, was born on April 8, 1940, and he passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on November 29, 2025. He was a lifelong member of the Sparta community, where he was known for his warm spirit, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

Alton was the beloved son of John Erastus Roberts and Betty Alice Roberts, who together raised him in a loving home. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 56 years, Rosetta Roberts, and his two sons, Dewey Douglas Roberts and Johnny Clay Roberts, grandson, Jakeup Choate. Alton will be remembered fondly by his survivors, which include his son Robert (Robbie) Roberts and his two sisters, Bonnie Murphy and Lois Eller. His legacy is carried on through his granddaughters, Amanda Bailey, Kayse Layne, and Kristin Chadwick, and by his great-grandchildren, Bayli Daniel Shubert, Lyla Graci Shubert, Adria Faith Bailey, Everleigh Jane Bailey, Xavier Dwayne Bailey, and Korbin Chadwick. Additionally, Alton leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish their memories of him.

Alton’s memorial service will be held on December 6, 2025, at Thurman Funeral Home located at 44 N Main St, Sparta, TN 38583, beginning at 1:00 PM, concluding at 2:00 PM. Friends, family, and those whose lives he touched are welcome to join in honoring his remarkable life.

Throughout his years, Alton was known for his strong work ethic, his love for storytelling, and his commitment to his community. His gentle presence and wise words left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he loved.
